QUALITY AND SERVICESINCE 1890This "Metamorphosis" series should bea valuable addition to the li ve musicscene, with a strong international flavourarising out of Inoue's broad circleof contacts in the music world and herstrong ties with Japan, and a talentedpianist as the pivot for its choice ofrepertoire and artists. (The final concertof the next series is still in the earlyplanning stages, but will feature themusic of J.S. Bach and will include asmall instrumental ensemble. The concertwill also be at the Glenn GouldStudio in May .)Background:Shoko Inoue was born and raised inTokyo, Japan, began playing the pianoat the age of three, and studied withteachers Shun Sato and Takashi Hironaka.After winning third place in the1996 Cleveland International PianoCompetition, she came to the UnitedStates to study under ful I scholarship atthe Cleveland Institute of Music withSergei Babayan. (To put things intoperspective, Canadians Angela Hewittand Andre Lemelin-the only Canadi-Above top: Shoko Inoue'smost influential teacher,Sergei BabayanAbove: Cellist AmandaForsyth will play in Inoue 'sinaugural "Metamorphosis"concert on September 19ans ever to place in the Cleveland International Piano Competitionwerealso both 3rd prize winners, in 1979 and 1983 respectively ,when the prize was know as the Casadesus Piano Competition.)
