Under its new director, Lawrence Goudge, who was . drawn to the choir by its spirit, an important goal is the development of a clean choral tone through voice placement, tuning and other technical training. Envisaged is a community choir.that is the best it can be, singing musically with firie phrasing and interpretation. The Annex Singers traditionally perform a major classical work at their Christmas and Spring concerts, along with · shorter pieces of varied folk and classical genres. Charpentier's Messe de Minuit pour Noel will be performed Dec. 9 at 8 pm, in a Carol Concert at St. Thomas Church (on Huron St., below Bloor), with a spring concert and annual. cabaret taking place on April 7 and May 26. Main rehearsals are Mondays. Some music reading ability is required of members. Members enjoy the opportunity to meet a variety of people through the Associates' numerous social events. The major activity is organizing The Five Small Concerts series held in Trinity-St.Paul's Centre, 427 Bloor St. W. Toronto. The series showcase' the talents of TSO musicians and the TSO Youth Orchestra. "2001 - A Musical Odyssey" is this season's theme, with music ranging from Mozart to Bernstein. The series runs from January to June. Membership also includes eight "informal" evenings where young classiqtl musicians perform, refreshments are served and scintil- . lating conversation is enjoyed. Our primary performances take place every Sunday morning at 11 am at our church, where we sing the great miniature masterworks' of sacred choral literature every week. On Sunday Dec. 17th at 2 pm 'we'll perform our personalized Messiah which features 13 different soloists, all of them choir members! We'll be presenting a shorter version, at bargain prices,. so that families can bring children to hear their first Messiah in a more relaxed, afternoon setting. Copies of our Christmas CD Wassail will be available at the concert. •••
