The choir, now in its 13th season, is a vibrant, growing organization with a commitment to excellence. Weekly rehearsals are Monday at the Salvation Army Community Church, Eglinton A venue just east ofYongeStreet, 7:30-9:30pm. The choir prepares 2 programmes annually, performing in a variety of community venues - hospitals, nursing homes, seniors' residences, schools, churches - as well as singing at special events and other pub­ I i c concerts. The members' diversity is reflected in a wide range of choral repertoire. It is an un-auditioned SA TB choir of fifty voices presenting two annual concerts, Christmas and Spring. The choir also performs in surrounding communities, supporting local events and fund-raising. The repertoire is drawn from both sacred and secular works including spirituals, folk music and Canadian compositions. The choir supports and encourages young musicians through a scholarship program, frequently including them in concert programs. The choir's accompanist is Debra Thompson. around the world with its rich repertoire of Ukrainian liturgical, classical, contemporary and traditional folk music, often accompanied by professional soloists and/or a chamber ensemble. There are three major concerts per season, as well as Christmas and Easter Liturgies. Tuesday rehearsals, 7:30pm to 9:30pm are at 4 Bellwoods Ave. Toronto. The new season commences September 2006. The fall concert is held in the lovely, gothic setting of the Victoria college chapel and features classical choral works, augmented by numerous guest instrumentalists. The spring concert is held in the Isabel Bader Theatre - an eclectic range of choral music, from classical works to folk songs from around the world, a medley of a Broadway musical , and some quirkier material. The choir also provides musical leadership at numerous college events. They perform two major concerts each year, and at seniors' residences, group homes and community events. The choir, under Joan Andrews, continues to expand its repertoire and artistic level. They have taken part in various music festivals and performed as guest artists with other choirs, as well as with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra. Youth Singers of Toronto, founded by Carol Woodward Ratzlaff in 2000 at a time of widespread cuts to public school arts programs, is comprised of four choirs. The Preparatory Chorus (ages 4-6) engages young singers in fun, age-app ro pr i ate musical activities. Singers in Main Chorus I (ages 7- 10) and Main Chorus II (ages 10- 16) receive weekly instruction in vocal technique, theory, and sightsinging, and regular private vocal coaching. The S.A .T.B. Youth Choir is for experienced singers dedicated to performing major choral works. All choirs participate in three annual concerts featuring repertoire varying in musical style and languages. Because the programs include solo as well as choral repertoire, some of which the composers stipulate one singer per part, the twelve singers must be accomplished solo performers who also have an affinity for and a commitment to ensemble work. Over its 29-year history, the choir has appeared on nat i o na II y televised programs including a performance of Messiah, and was selected to perform in both the 1989 and 1993 Toronto International Choral Festivals. Composer in residence, Jeff Smallman has written several pieces commissioned by the group. In its twenty-second season, this 70-voice choir has become a highprofile representative of the region, performing in many parts of Canada, USA and abroad. In 2004 the choir sang in Paris, Milan, Venice, and in the Salzburg International Choir and Orchestra Festival. In 2005 the choir represented Ontario in the Unisong Festival for Canada Day in the National Arts Centre. Karen Burke directs the Gospel Choir. The World Music Chorus (traditional music of Africa, Europe (folk and medieval) and Asia (especially Georgia) is led by Judith Cohen. With its costumes and choreography, the choir has evolved into a unique group, performing at 15-20 private, corporate and community events per year.
