SINFONIA TORONTOSinfonia Toronto performs its seven Masterpiece Seriesconcerts at Grace Church on-the-Hill (300 Lonsdale Road).The orchestra travels to other Ontario centres, broadcastson CBC and holds and performs a number of communityoutreach concerts.Sinfonia Toronto's strings perform standing, in thetradition of great chamber orchestras, blending eachmusician's soloistic energy into a brilliant ensembleunder music director Nurhan Arman. A roster of windsand percussion joins the strings for programs drawn fromthe chamber orchestra repertoire. This fall the orchestrawill release a new CD on Marquis Classics and in March2009 will record another CD featuring llutist Louise diTullio. In November the orchestra will tour Germany'sHessen state performing live concerts in live cities. Itsperformances will be recorded by Hessischer Rudlunk forstate wide broadcast.Soloists for 2008-2009 include pianists Angela Parkand Darrell Zusko; violinists Alexandre Da Costa, Mary­Elizabeth Brown and Xiaohan Guo; cellists Denyse Djokicand Andras Weber; clarinetist Dorko Brlek, and guestconductor Risto Savic.Sinfonia Toronto has been acclaimed by critics. It remains a veryspecial group alter all these years. The men andwomen of Singing OUTI stand united as an SATB groupand revel in this diversity. Arecognized national leader and a hub of internationalmusic collaboration, Soundstreams Canada is one of thelargest and most dynamic organizations of its kindanywhere in the world.The programming, curated by artistic director LawrenceCherney, focuses on music by living composers, often witha special emphasis on Canadian composers and theirinternational contemporaries. It is a National HistoricSite because it contains the only religious art of membersof the Group of Seven. The Casavant Freres organ has justbeen expanded and refurbished. Renowned for its musicand acoustics, St. Anne's is the venue for special musicalevents by our own choir (e.g., September 28 at 2 pm "JOOYears of Music") and other groups. Our dynamic newdirector of music, Daniel Norman, plans to launch a juniorchoir this year.In the 300-seat parish hall auditorium at 651 DufferinStreet, the Music and Drama Society will feature Gilbert &Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance this season. Threetreble and SATB boys' choirs sing at the Sunday Massesand for all the solemn liturgies of the Christmas and Easterseasons, as well as important archdiocesan and civicevents.The Choir School provides an enriched learningenvironment for boys in grades 3 to 12, with daily choralrehearsals, and individual instruction in piano, organ,voice, strings, and guitar. Both elementary and secondaryacademic programs have attained first place in recentFraser Institute provincial rankings.
