Duruflé wove traditional Gregorian chant melodiesand textures into the fabric of this reflective setting of therequiem mass. The program also includes the Requiem by English composerHerbert Howells. Instead of setting the traditional requiemmass texts, Howells chose devotional psalms and scriptureverses, ending with the peaceful and very moving “I heard avoice from Heaven.” The choir will also perform Howells’ TakeHim, Earth, for Cherishing. Written in the spring of 1964, the piecewas dedicated “to the honoured memory of John FitzgeraldKennedy, President of the United States of America.”SAINT THOMAS’S ANGLICAN CHURCH383 HURON STREET, TORONTOTICKETS Regular , Senior , Student To order or for more information: 416-971-9229WWW.EXULTATE.NETOctober 1 - November 7, 2010 thewholenote.com 37
