Presenters, start your engines! With TIFF and "back-to-work" out of the way, the regular concert season rumbles to life, and, if our Editor's Opener can be trusted, "Seeking Synergies" seems to be the name of the game. Denise Williams' constantly evolving "Walk Together Children" touching down at the Toronto Centre for the Arts; the second annual Festival of Arabic Music and Arts expanding its range; a lesson in Jazz Survival with Steve Wallace; the 150 presenter and performer profiles in our 19th annual Blue Pages directory... this is an issue that is definitely more than the sum of its parts.

I’ve had the pleasure of capturing this talented vocalist, three years ago when we did our first photo shoot. This August, however, was an extra special occasion; it was in celebration of her 60th birthday. I remember Denise reaching out and inquiring about some other order of business, and in passing mentioning her upcoming hallmark of a birthday. I instantly offered to shoot as a birthday tribute and celebration of her professional accomplishments. With admiration for her contribution to Toronto’s artistic landscape, she is a beacon of hope and inspiration to many. We shared, laughed, ate, changed and hopefully encapsulated 60 years of an established woman, mother, artist, and friend. — Amina Abena Alfred Nicandro e Fileno aCd2 2770 7 OPENER | Who Stole My Title? | DAVID PERLMAN 8 FEATURE| Building Musical Bridges | DAVID PERLMAN 10 FEATURE | Seeking Synergies - Festival of Arabic Music and Arts | ANDREW TIMAR 14 FEATURE | With Soundstreams in Shanghai | WILLIAM LITTLER 16 FEATURE | The Not So Little Worlds of Linda Bouchard | DAVID JAEGER 18 IN CONVERSATION | Still Dreaming – Nurhan Arman | PAUL ENNIS 63 MUSIC AND HEALTH | Opera Love: A Case for Survival | ELIZABETH ABRAHAM 64 WE ARE ALL MUSIC’S CHILDEN | November’s Child | MJ BUELL 82 REARVIEW MIRROR | Daring to Walk the Walk: The COC’s Hadrian | ROBERT HARRIS Le Nouvel Opéra Les Boréades directed by Francis Colpron suzie leBlanC (Filli) PasCale Beaudin (Clori) PhiliPPe GaGné (Lidio) nils BRown (Nicandro) dominiC Côté (Eurillo) Jean-maRC salzmann (Fileno) Just Released! 82 G R I G O R I A N .
