BAND STAND MERLIN WILLIAMS r Summer has officially started ·- let .. the patk concerts begin! The Weston Silver Band performs at the Little' Park Bandshell in Weston on July 4th and 18th. The band will also be appearing at the Central Park Bandshell in Burlington on July 12th. ' The Thornhill Community Band plays at the band gazebo in Mill Pond Park in Richmond Hill on July 6th at 7:30. This group is also appearing in the Vaughan Summer Concert-in-the­ Parks series on July 1st and July 18th. The Etob~coke Community · ConcerLBand is presenting two Twilight Concerts in the Park at the Applewood Homestead on the West MalL The July 12th concert features Celtic music. On July 26th the ECCB will have a steel band as their guest artist. Both concerts start at 7 :00 p.m. Conductor John Edward Liddle and the North York Concert Band are presenting a program of Broadway, classics and traditional band The Hannaford Street Youth Band has just finished a very successful first season. .I attended their concert in May, and was impressed that the band so4nded so good in their first year . . The HSYB's second season starts with auditions in September .. The auditions. are open to brass ·pfayers aged 14 to 21. · · Most of the instruments (cornets, alto horns etc) have been. provided PY Yamaha Canada. French Horn players who win a spot in the' band 'are provided with alto horns. All players are required to read in treble clef, in accordance with the tradition of the British Brass Band. The group rehearses .Saturday mornings at the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto.
