· Music has been holding a popular and unusual event, the Opera Tea. ("We usually sell out," they inform me.)·It consists of a performance by the students of the Opera Division that takes place on a .small stage set up on the stage of the MacMillan Theatre. The rest of the normal stage area is filled with 16large tables for the spectators, and at intermission the student performers help the audience to tea, coffee and Dufflet's cakes. This year the · Opera Tea presentation is a condensed version of the very rarely perfomied 1868 opera Hamlet by French composer Ambroise Thomas (1811-96). The production is staged, but the performers wear concert dress. It takes place on Friday, October 14.
